A couples weekend in Broadbeach works best as one unbroken walk: check in at Koko Broadbeach on Friday, and everything from that first cocktail to Sunday brunch sits within about five minutes of our front door on Elizabeth Avenue. Here is the weekend for two, hour by hour, with booking advice and walk times for every stop.
How should you spend Friday night?
Arrive, park the car in the secure garage, and do not touch it again. Start with dinner at Social Eating House and Bar on Oracle Boulevard, a four to five minute walk one street across from our door. Book this one before you leave home; it fills fast on weekends and a walk-in on Friday night can mean a half hour wait. The move for two is sharing: the one kilo slow roasted salt bush lamb shoulder is built for a couple, with the king prawn risotto as the quieter second plate. Expect mid-range share-plate pricing rather than fine-dining figures. Afterwards, wander to Roosevelt Lounge on Surf Parade, a couple of minutes further on. It is a 1920s style cocktail room open Thursday to Saturday from 5pm till late, known for theatrical cocktails and French Champagne, with live music on those three nights. Note the smart-formal dress code, no thongs or shorts, so pack accordingly. It is the most adult room in Broadbeach and the right full stop to night one.
What does the perfect Saturday look like?
Slow. Walk the 250 metres down Elizabeth Avenue to Kurrawa Beach before the day warms up; the patrolled flags go up early and the sand is quietest before 8am. Breakfast is at Elk Espresso at the Oasis on Old Burleigh Road, about four minutes from the apartment, open from 5:45am with the kitchen running to 2pm. It is walk-in only, and guests keep mentioning the seasonal panna cotta breakfasts as the reason they queue, so go early or brace for a short wait mid-morning. Spend the middle of the day however the two of you like: the beach, the pool deck back at Koko, or the ten minute walk to Pacific Fair for unhurried shopping. One guest put it simply after a stay: park the car up and walk everywhere. That is the Saturday. Nothing on this day needs a booking, which is the point, and an apartment with a full kitchen means a lazy lunch on the balcony is always an option.
Where should Saturday night dinner be?
Koi on Surf Parade at the corner of Albert Avenue, three to four minutes from our door. It has been a Broadbeach fixture since 2007, serving modern Australian with a seafood lean, and the sand crab lasagne is the signature dish couples order to share. Book the dining room ahead for a Saturday; if you decide late, the lounge bar side takes drop-ins for cocktails and a couple of small plates, which is its own kind of evening. Hours run Thursday to Saturday from midday till late, so a long unhurried dinner is exactly what the room is designed for. Dress is polished-casual, and pricing sits at the special-occasion end of mid-range rather than eye-watering.
How do you close out Sunday morning?
With the walk you will remember. Swim first at Kurrawa Beach, then follow the beachfront path south past the surf club while the morning is still cool; it is flat, scenic and takes as long as you want it to. Circle back to Elk Espresso for a second breakfast run or a takeaway coffee to carry to Kurrawa Park, two minutes from the apartment. Late checkout, when available, buys you one more hour on the balcony, and most Koko apartments carry some form of ocean view, so the last coffee of the weekend comes with a horizon. If you have energy left, the Broadbeach North light rail station is 500 metres away and the tram reaches Surfers Paradise in minutes, an easy add-on before the drive home.
FAQs
Is Broadbeach good for a couples weekend?
Yes. Broadbeach packs a patrolled beach, two dining precincts and a cocktail lounge scene into a few walkable blocks, so a weekend for two runs without a car. Staying at Koko puts all of it within about five minutes of your apartment door on Elizabeth Avenue, with secure parking so the car stays put.
Which Broadbeach restaurants should couples book ahead?
Book Social Eating House and Bar for Friday or Saturday night, since it fills fast on weekends, and reserve Koi if you want the dining room rather than the lounge bar. Roosevelt Lounge takes bookings for groups up to nine, and walk-ins are possible early in the evening before the live music starts.
What can couples do in Broadbeach on a Sunday morning?
Start with an early swim at Kurrawa Beach, then walk to Elk Espresso, which opens from 5:45am daily. It is walk-in only, so arriving before 8am on a Sunday means you skip the queue. From there, the beachfront path makes an easy flat stroll south past the surf club before checkout.
Do you need to hire a car for a Broadbeach weekend?
No. From Koko, every venue in this itinerary is between two and seven minutes on foot, and the Broadbeach North light rail station is 500 metres away if you want to add Surfers Paradise to the weekend. Secure parking at the apartment means the car stays put until checkout.
A weekend for two only feels boutique when nothing is rushed, and Broadbeach on foot from Koko is exactly that. When you are ready to set the dates, browse our Broadbeach accommodation and see what else is within reach in our guide to things to do in Broadbeach.
