Koko’s walkable Broadbeach: restaurants, beach and the light rail

by | Feb 1, 2026 | Attractions

Stay at Koko Broadbeach and you can leave the car parked from check-in to checkout. From our front door on Elizabeth Avenue, five of the best things in Broadbeach sit inside a seven minute walk: Kurrawa Beach, two dining precincts, a local breakfast institution and the light rail. Here is exactly how far each one is, and how to get there on foot.

How quickly can you be on the sand at Kurrawa Beach?

About three to four minutes. Walk east down Elizabeth Avenue toward the water, cross Old Burleigh Road at Kurrawa Park, and the sand opens up in front of you. Kurrawa is patrolled year round, with the red and yellow flags up daily through the warmer months, and the gradient stays gentle close to shore. That combination makes it a genuine early risers’ beach: guests keep mentioning the quiet 6am walks before the day heats up. The grassed foreshore at Kurrawa Park has shade, showers and a playground, so families can base themselves here for hours. It is the single biggest reason our location score sits so high with guests.

Where can you eat without leaving the block?

Broadbeach Tavern, about a three to four minute walk. Head toward the beach end of Elizabeth Avenue and the Oasis precinct sits on Old Burleigh Road. The bistro runs 11:30am to 9pm every day, and the wider venue stays open far later, so it covers you whether you want an early family lunch or a late drink. The menu leans on pub classics done properly: steaks, fresh seafood and share platters built for a table. You can book a table, but walk-ins are welcome, which makes it the reliable fallback on a busy Saturday night when the Oracle restaurants are full. It suits families and groups more than a quiet date.

What about a proper sit-down dinner nearby?

Social Eating House and Bar, roughly a four to five minute walk. From the front door, cut one street across to Oracle Boulevard behind the Peppers and Oracle towers. It opens daily for lunch and dinner and works around shared plates: the one kilo slow roasted salt bush lamb shoulder is the dish regulars order to the table, alongside king prawn risotto with truffle creme fraiche and BBQ octopus with chimichurri. The bartenders take cocktails seriously, so it doubles as a pre dinner drinks spot. Bookings are recommended because it fills quickly on weekends. This one leans adult, and is a good pick for couples or a group celebrating something.

Can you get around the Gold Coast without the car?

Yes, and the light rail is the reason. Walk west along Elizabeth Avenue toward the Gold Coast Highway and Broadbeach North station is about 500 metres away, close to a seven minute walk. The G:link tram runs north through Surfers Paradise and Southport to Helensvale, where it links to the heavy rail line for Brisbane. Trams come every few minutes at peak, so you can reach Surfers for dinner or the Broadwater for a swim without touching the car park. Guests heading to theme parks often tram to Helensvale and connect from there, which sidesteps the holiday traffic entirely.

Where do the locals go for breakfast?

Elk Espresso, about a four minute walk toward Kurrawa Park. It sits at the Oasis on Old Burleigh Road, opposite the park, and opens daily from 5:45am with the kitchen running to 2pm. Elk has built its reputation on coffee and a changing seasonal menu, and its panna cotta breakfasts get named again and again by guests as the standout. Expect French toast, smoked salmon plates and egg waffles depending on the season. There are no bookings, it is walk in only, so the trick on a weekend is to arrive before 8am or wander down mid morning once the first rush clears. Early risers coming back from the beach have it easy.

How far is Koko Broadbeach from the beach?

Kurrawa Beach is roughly 250 metres away, a three to four minute walk straight down Elizabeth Avenue toward the water.
